So as you all know, a new year is upon us. Some people like to reinvent themselves this time of year. Some people like to set attainable goals for the upcoming year that can really help them to better themselves. Some people set crazy goals and worry about reaching them. Some people go to yoga about twice at the beginning of January with the pass that they bought on Black Friday then give up to stay home, eat leftover Christmas cookies and wallow.

Not that I know anyone who did that last one or anything…

While I’m not 100% on board with New Year’s resolutions, since my blog is fairly new (and since I officially hit 20 posts last week — WOO!), I thought I would reflect on different things that I’ve written here and make resolutions based on those. Great idea, right? Cheesy, sentimental, reflective…and now I want cheese.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. This is just some way for her to drive more traffic to her other articles! Yes, you are correct. Congrats, you seem to be starting off your 2019 well. Now shut up and let people enjoy things.

 

Today’s Rant: Why I Hate Going to the Movies (and Today’s Rant: There’s a Special Places in Hell for People Who Tell me to Sit Down at Concerts)

 

This one is somewhat straightforward. I’d actually like to write a lot more of these ranting posts. I have a lot of feelings about a lot of everyday things, and the people around me are sick of hearing me scream about them. What better way to take out my frustrations with life using a keyboard and a fresh audience? It’s what all of the kids are doing these days. There’s truly nothing like the feeling of hating truly mundane things with an unnecessary passion. And not to brag, but I’m really good at that.

 

Book Review: 101 Secrets for Your Twenties

 

I don’t know how many of you read regularly, but I would love to make reading part of my daily routine. Even if I only read a few pages, I want to be able to sit down regularly, book in hand, and take a moment to myself to relax and enjoy some literature.

Don’t get me wrong, I love watching TV (as you all know), and I think TV shows can really bring people together and bring joy into your life, but something about reading just feels good. There’s something about putting a book down after focusing on it and really appreciating it that just makes everything feel more at peace, for me at least. And it indeed gives you something to really focus on. The thing about reading is that it sucks me in like nothing else (except for maybe escape rooms). While I may peek at my phone occasionally, I’m not picking my phone up every five seconds like I do when watching TV.

Plus, the more books I read, the more reviews I can do like this one. I don’t know if you noticed, but I got Paul Angone to share this review on his social media, so I’m kind of a big deal. *flips hair* *hair goes in mouth and gets stuck in chapstick* *futile spitting* *sounds of glass breaking and cats yowling*

 

The Busy Millennial’s Guide to Daily Self-Reflection

 

Oh boy. Okay, so for me, 2018 was the year of “depressed Renata surrounds herself with tons of different potentially interesting things to distract her from the dumpster fire she feels her life is.” Pretty sure that’s part of the Chinese zodiac. And if it isn’t it, should be.

If you remember, I talked about all of the guided journals I own and try to keep up with. The collection has since grown, and at this point, if I try to keep up with all of the journals I own, I will literally spend all of my waking hours (and maybe even some of my sleeping hours) journaling. Can’t write about too much if I’m not actually doing things!

I think this year should be the year that I focus in on one or two things to keep up with instead of spreading myself too thin. I can totally record different types of events in different places, but overall, I’d like to pick one or two journals for regular, daily use.

 

Rewatchers, Unite!

 

OKAY FINE, I’LL WATCH SOME NEW SERIES, STOP YELLING.

Now that I’m finally out of that whole “dumpster fire” scenario described above, I have the energy and motivation to watch some new stuff instead of the same things over and over. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to watch solely new things, but I can watch a new series here and there.

It looks like my list currently includes: Gilmore Girls, She-Ra, Ally McBeal, Difficult People, Master of None, One Day at a Time, Splitting Up Together, Community, and Superstore. Just to name a few.

Yes, I looked at my Netflix and Hulu watchlists to make that list and am now feeling overwhelmed. Happy 2019!

 

Hazy Craze in the Corn Maze with Rows of Maize that Stretched for Days

 

Inside look: Hey Renata, did you purposefully make that title superfluously long for what basically seems to be no good reason? Hey imaginary interviewer, why yes. Yes, I did. *wink wink*

If you read this one, you not only know that my friends and I crushed an epic corn maze this year, but also that my best friend came up with the idea and reached out to me to do it. This reminded me that I haven’t planned many events last year or invited my friends to do activities that frequently.

This year, I’d really like to be more proactive about going out with my friends instead of sitting back and waiting for the phone to ring. Bonus points if I invite them to anything besides escape rooms.

Whew. This is gonna be a toughie.

 

Just One More Episode…

 

As much as I cringe writing this, I’m going to make it my goal to see at least a couple more movies this year. I’m getting tired of scaring people off because I’m “uncultured” and “unrelatable” and “I eat all the popcorn that was meant for ten humans and fall asleep during the opening credits.” Jeez, people! You would think that never having seen Forrest Gump was a crime against humanity!

Honestly, my partner is a huge movie buff, so I would love to watch some more movies just to make him happy and to discuss with him. He watches all of my shows with me, the least I can do is watch some movies with him. So I guess this year one of my goals is to learn how to…compromise. Bleh.

Just kidding, babe, I love you and the face you make at me when you learn for the fifth time that I’ve never seen The Terminator!

 

Like I said, I’m not the biggest resolution person, but I think all of these things will just make me overall enjoy life more. Even the ranting, because let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good rant every once in a while?

    1. Haha. Thank you for that! Yeah, I have no idea why, but my brain just doesn’t like movies! Although I’m thinking as the depression fades, I’ll be able to watch more. I hope you get the chance to watch more too!
